I grew up in a typical Nigerian conservative household. My dad was always quick to point out when our skirt length was above the length he considered decent.
Till date, he still turns his nose down at people he considers “indecent” just because of their dressing and I have a recording on my Instagram story highlights to prove this. Lol.
During my modeling days, it took me a while to adjust (low-key never quite adjusted) to the amount of nudity and having to change in front of people. I would always hide away from designers I knew were showcasing lingerie or anything that had to do with wearing a bikini.

For the longest time, I thought I was weird because I was the only one amongst my friends who had a problem with putting on a bikini at the beach.
But I recently put it out on twitter & instastory and realized that I am not alone in this. So, if you’re like me, who needs a bit more coverage and isn’t exactly a huge fan (yet) of both the one-piece or bikini. I’m sharing a couple of bikini alternatives I wore during my recent beach staycation at Tarkwa bay.
This may/may not be a reason to share these dope pictures.
But hey! The best part? You don’t need to make any new purchase, you most likely already have these in your closet.
1. The Bandeau Fix.
I like to think that there are different types of people when it comes to this bikini thing.
There are the people who just aren’t comfortable showing any skin, there are those like me who don’t mind wearing a bikini top but still iffy about showing their butt cheeks to the world and then there are those who the reverse is the case.
If you fall under the last category, the bandeau (aka boob tube) fix is one way to go!
It is comfortable, a perfect bikini alternative and you don’t have to worry about showing any cleavage. The best part about bandeau tops though? They work well with anything!
Pair this with high waisted shorts, flowy pants or even a skirt and you’re good to go.
2. A Loose Shirt Dress.
Nothing says beach vibes like a free floral dress. Or in my case, a shirt dress. As long as it ticks the functionality box and is easy to take on and off, it can be the ideal piece and a great cover up.
Pair with itty bitty shorts or a one piece bikini.

If you’re like me though, who doesn’t exactly mind wearing a bikini top but still iffy about the bikini about the bottoms. You can go with culottes pants or a nice wrap skirt.
What do you think? Which of these is more your style? Are you fully comfortable with wearing a bikini or are you still yet to get to that comfort point?

I’m a conservative person naturally so I guess the bandeau and high waist shorts would do it for me. I could only do a bikini at a private pool with hubby alone. I enjoyed reading this Cassie
Thank you LQueen! I guess “we plenty” after all 😂
(You’re lowkey stunting on us and i love it)… Wore a bikini to go swimming with a girlfriend a while back, and i probably would have not done it if she wasn’t there with me. But I’m learning to stop caring/worrying over how my body is perceived by others and just have fun (which i did 😊)… Would still try out any of these looks though 🙌
LMAO I’m glad someone noticed that I’m stunting 😂
And yesss! I’m happy to read that you’re getting over “people’s perceptions”. Flourish!
These looks are perfect Cassie…
I own a lot of cute bikinis but I’m just not comfortable wearing them out..
I dont think its weird.
I will go with the shirt dress… It’s more comfortable for me!

Hey Cassie, be looking fly! I am still not comfortable with wearing a bikini out public because of the kind of house I grew up in and also because my body is not banging just yet! But I’m going to try your first outfit when I find the courage and body to. Lol

I’m not comfortable showing too much skin in public too. Probably because I feel too skinny. My fave is number 2. I’d probably wear a bikini underneath and pull the dress shirt over it.
I’m here for the pictures! They are so perfect!
These alternatives are nice. Love look one, provided its with a boob tube snug enough for my slightly big boobs.
Wow! Loved this actually! They are all so super stylish plus real conservative in a cute way!
I don’t mind wearing a one piece. I’m working on my inhibitions with a two piece so I’m looking into getting one pieces that look like two pieces. However an oversized chiffon shirt is my go to cover up and well as shorts with a bikini top.Girl we plenty though with these inibitions.
you look so gorgeous. loved the yellow bikini and grey pants the most. beautiful <3
Thanks for sharing…..
The first fit and the last one are the options I’d go with. Thankfully, my dad isn’t so conservative 🙂
THE SKIRT AND THE BIKINI BRA IS MORE ME, PUT INSTEAD OF THE SKIRT A PALAZZO WITH THAT SAME STYLE…
It’s actually culottes not a skirt. So it’s like trousers but looks like a skirt
