I always go on and on about how the classic red lips will always be a win for me and truly, bright red lipsticks have been my go-to lip color for a long time now. Lately, I’ve found myself reaching less and less for the bright red lipstick and leaning more toward dark lipsticks shades – particularly vamp shades of brown, red and purple.

I’m a stickler for routine so I never thought the day would come where I’ll own more dark lipsticks than I do other shades, what’s that thing about never saying never again?

In this post, I’m sharing my top five budget-friendly dark lipsticks that I’ve basically been wearing these past few weeks. Oh and psst! One of them is a hack that you probably didn’t see coming so keep reading.

1. Drug Store Eye Pencil In Shade Brown.

Starting off my list with this dark brown lipstick hack that I’ve been rocking non-stop. I call it a hack because it’s basically just an eye pencil which I picked for N300 at the supermarket at my workplace.

The only downside is that it comes off easily the second you eat anything.

2. Avour Long Lasting Matte Lip Gloss – Shade 06

This was the lipstick that made me have a change of heart towards brown lip color. My then-roommate had this exact shade and after trying it once, I decided to get mine.

I’m honestly not sure how to describe this color. It isn’t exactly brown and has a tinge of gray but it works just fine for me, although it isn’t as long lasting as I would have loved. This is also matte.

I got this off a lady that sells makeup in my hostel for N2000.

3. Lime Crime Matte Velvetines – Fetish

Dark purple? Yes Please! After red, dark purple is my second favorite lip color to wear. I absolutely love this one by Lime crime. It has a matte finish, is long lasting and applies well.

Sometimes, I like to line my lips with black liner before applying for an extra dark feel.

4. Beyond Beauty Lip Gloss – Shade 42 (Deep Wine)

I’ve had this beyond beauty wine red lipstick forever. It cost me around N750 at the time and I loved how rich the color was and the fact that it lasted the whole day. Taking it off requires oil, it is that long lasting! But can also be a pain if you can’t find something oily to take it off.

Although, in these pictures, I mixed it with a bit of red lipstick from house of Tara, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly dark lipstick to replace your love for bright red, this will have your back.

5. Jaxx Cosmetics – Shade 21 (Wilhemina)

Of all the brands featured in this post, Jaxx cosmetics is my favorite! Followed closely by lime crime. I’ve reviewed the Jaxx cosmetics lipsticks previously here.

This shade of brown is bae! It compliments my skin so well and I think I just might start wearing it more often.
