BIG HAIR, DON’T CARE.
I’ve been meaning to get a big fro type hair done for the longest time (years) now, because everyone (myself inclusive) kept telling me how good I’d look with it and I also wanted the feel/look of a big natural hair without the commitment of it.
I mentioned in this post that I wanted to get crochet braids done, but couldn’t find anywhere to do it at a reasonable price ( I was hearing 5k upwards oh!). Well, I finally did – three months after.
The other day, while wondering what next to do to my hair. I decided to just try a number someone gave me for the braids and lo and behold, her price was so reasonable and affordable! I didn’t waste time in booking her for the next day.
We only used one and half packs of the extension and I thought it wouldn’t take more than 30 mins max to get don, because of the way everyone kept saying it is so fast and easy to do, but it took approximately an hour and thirty minutes which is almost like the time used to fix a weave. I also think its a bit harder and would take a longer time to take it out as well.
I hated the hair initially because it was all puffed up and looked oddly shaped – if you’re on my snapchat @cassiedaves, you would have seen me lamenting. The only reason why I didn’t take it down, was because I didn’t really understand how to loosen it and I couldn’t do it by myself.
I’m glad I didn’t because after a bit of manipulation the next day, I started feeling the hair a bit more.
The hair stylist tried to give me some tips to style the hair – something about perm rods and hot water, but I’m still so clueless about it all. I currently have it all done in a few big braid and I’m honestly not sure if I should have made that ‘twists’ instead.
Would I try the crochet braid again?
Regardless of the time factor almost being like normal weave time, I think I’d do the crochet braids again but next time with another extension – maybe a longer one with a tightly curled texture too. I should also try the proper braided type as well because I LOVE braids but I hate the amount of time it takes.
I was so shocked when I saw this post because I make my crotchet braids by my self and I'm doing a video tutorial on how I do mine tomorrow.
Also, this hair looks lovely on you! This is not the Cassie I know o. Hehehe

loool! Please which cassie do you know biko? Abi you people think I can't look fine too ehn π
Oh yeah! I had this same hair on my head some weeks ago. I had it on for 5 weeks. I never used oil or cream on it bcos of this particular texture of Noble hair. I never combed it either. Just use a pair of scissors to trim the extra hairs that tangle and come out everyday and you're good. Mine still looked great after 5 weeks!

Forreall? You just made it easier for me sef, because you used the same one as mine. Ese gan! Thank you!
Let me go and check your blog for pictures
The perm rods and hot water are for curling but you might need someone to help with that, I have quite a number of posts on Crochet hair under "protective styling" You can contact "@Boluwa__" on Twitter for more hair options for crochet.

I see crochet braids on some people and I like it and on some I am like what the hell.
Not sure I want to try it but then never say never. I do like this one on you.
lool. I can relate! The one i hate the most is that big twisting one. It annoys me to see it on people ehn.
Oooh I like it!
You finally got crochet braids! (even though you refused to do them by yourself lol- please stop saying you cannot. Maybe you won't but you CAN)
It's synthetic hair so, you don't need so much product wise. When you get bored, you can switch it up by blow drying it for a straighter look (many synthetic fibres these days can take the heat) You can also try a twist-out with it, or curl with a curling wand OR use bendy rollers/ perm rods and dip in hot water (see Youtube)
Enjoy! π
*jots down notes furiously* Thankssssssssssss! For both the compliment and the tips!
Lol. I watched some videos and I realized that I should be able to do it, but I guess I'm just a lazy bone. Thank God I found someone to make it at a really cheap rate or I might have been forced to try it myself.
You are totally rocking that hair, Cassie!
This is the first time I'm seeing crochet fro and it looks so natural. There's something about the fro. It shows confidence and African pride.
You look so beautiful!

I like it.Almost had it done before I got the braids on my hair but I wasn't sure the woman in my area would get it right so I let it go.I want to do it myself once I take my braids off.Like Maranatha said this is not the Cassie we know o!You should try more hairstyles out. This suits you so well.I'm jealous.

Your skin is so flawless! It suits you so well!
It was trial and error for me too. When a hair stylists tell yous your hairstyle cost $300, 'ogini? honey daas olright, I got a little time to discover my talent' lol. I practically do this myself now. w
When you are your own MUA and hair stylist , tchai! But I save so much from doing it myself here. I miss home, particularly the luxury of switching up my hair every week for such affordable rates. I'm also in the comforts of my home, watching a movie while at it. It can be time consuming though.I love using cold perm rods to get them pre-curled too, to add more excitement to it. Plus its super affordable.

This looks nice on you,i will try it out one of these days when the spirit leads. But i hate that twisted crochet as well,it does not look nice on most people(it gives this zuma rock kind of head). Keep slaying Cassie and your skin is glowing nice one.
1k? I need to save her number!
I like how it looks like natural hair and you wear it well!
I don't think you need any cream or oil on it.
Personally, I twisted mine before bed to reduce the tangling and this also resulted in nice twist outs.
You can see my crochet experience here: https://jenniferabah.com/2015/01/20/crochetastic/
It totally suits you! And yes, it prob takes a day to get into it!

Cassie! See how you're showing off your glowing skin. So beautiful. I looooooveee your hair. You look really different and it fits you.
I'm a bit conservative when it comes to making hair. Always scared of taking risks so I just stick to my loyal braids. I'll like to see other ways you style this hair.

They look great on you, I would have thought it was natural hair if you didn't mention that they are crotchet braids.

I'm so pleased to read this post because for the past 2 days I've been googling and youtubing (I am sure those words do not exist) concerning crochet braids and at last minute considered to make it a DIY so reading this post just gave me a go ahead for this hair do, just need to figure out where to get the perm rods, mannequin head, crochet braids etc. thanks for the inspo
You could order from @naijanaturals on instagram. They have a wig kit.
I like the look on you! You can comb it out a bit, use perm rods to roll it, then dip it in hot water.
Hair looks gorgeous! I'm thinking about doing this as well, but we'll see how it goes. Ii'm not very great at hair maintenance π
Your hair is beautiful and it looks very natural!

Considering I do all kinds of hair on myself by myself, it's totally great to join the train lol. The hair does look great on you though. You really don't need any products.. I didn't use any for the almost 2months I carried mine. The combed out version is the hair I had in my off-shoulder outfit post. You could try that weeks later after you've rocked this one. The perm rods and hot water is a go, check youtube Biko… So many great tutorials!!
http://www.toyinwithfashion.com
My mum saw someone with the combed out version today and didn't let me hear word again oh. Talmabout how I need to comb out mine lol. I should do that after I've carried this for a while though.
Yours was so longg! I love it!
Lol, welcome. Because I've been getting them done for years, and even sold some crochet wigs last year, it's such a basic style for me. I ventured into vixen crochet braids last week – if I can get my photos right, I'll put up a post.
BTW the hair looks nice, so thank God you didn't take them out.

Thank You!!! Lol my dad was complaining that I look like a mad woman and my brother had to tell him that's what's in vogue now. Lool
You saying "it's all the rage now" just reminded me of that
Hey love, I just replied you on my blog now… I missed reading your blog, and this fro looks good on you… Why are you too up so late? Oh I just read yoir insomnia post lol. That makes two of us hahahaaa
Let me to and check the reply. Lol follow me on snapchat and you'll find out why I'm up this late hehe
Insomnia has started reducing now and I think I'm the one making it worse myself these days because I procrastinate doing my work till it's late.
Hair looks amazing on you and this does well for a fro. It seems like I'm most likely doing the next one myself, used up a lot of data on videos plus in this economy, anything to save. I used this for my afro wig a while back and all you need is water and trimming.
Lovely hair. Suits you beautifully.

xoxo..
The hair actually does look good on you, for a first attempt it's normal for you to feel the way you do. At least I did the first time I installed crotchet braids. It felt too puffy, looked too large and heavy. I contemplated taking it out but quickly learnt I could style it in different ways. And regarding the maintenance, just get weave oil. That would help with making it shine and sure, you can comb it out if you want to.

That's how I didn't see the comment I left that year, it can pain sha after leaving one long ass comment and to see it never delivered *sighs*
Let's recap lol
I love this hair on you and I've been wanting to make it since March now when I saw it on a friend but I can't even explain it lol.
The price they are calling I don't even understand sef, you will think I'm buying the pin for them too.
When I finally do it, might just do it myself.
Come over to the natural side oh , it suits you

Cassie, you definitely look good and you have been rocking this style like a pro for a while now. I guess you already have an armour of styling tips at your disposal.
sorry, pls where do you buy your cloths, online? what website
This hair really looked nice on you, I even thought it was a wig or something, didn't think it was crochet. I did my very first crochet myself and a friend helped me complete the front to save time. I think it's pretty easy to do alone at home but not easy to take out alone. I blogged about mine here – My First Crochet Hair
All the prices these saloon call πthere is God ooh!!! The hair looks really good on you π
