Before the skinny jeans was the iconic flare jeans a.k.a Bell-bottoms. The high waisted flare jeans was definitely one of the highlights of my childhood (style-wise of course), till the skinny jeans came and everyone just had to have a piece of that. Myself included. I tossed my flare jeans aside and didn’t even stop to take a quick glance back. Life.
I honestly can’t recall how I styled my bell bottom jeans back then, but knowing myself and my lack of style in the days gone, I would probably have thrown on a regular ass top and called it a day. Thankfully, with the way fashion revolves bringing back old trends and making them new, it feels like I’m constantly been given a second chance to right all my fashion mistakes from back then so Thank you, Style Gods! haha
Yup, that’s right! In addition to the high-waisted mom jeans from the ’90s, the 70s high waisted flare jeans is back in trend as well, and I’m here for all of it!

When the wide leg jeans made a comeback early last year, I began the hunt for the perfect high waisted flare jeans. You know, being a 6ft1 girl comes with all its perks, yes, but also the downsides too like the struggle to find jeans the perfect length. So, when Grey Velvet’s sister line – Franckie And Co launched their Denim line, I was happy to see that they took we tall girls into consideration too.

I got gifted this pair of high waisted flare jeans from FCO and my initial thought after awwing over how comfortable and flattering it is was how the heck would I style this! Styling the high waisted flare jeans can be a bit tricky because it can easily come off as bleh if you don’t take proportions into consideration. Now that I’ve been given a second chance to make the style Gods proud, I didn’t want to mess it up again. lol
I decided to go the smart casual route (Remember this post on how to nail the smart casual dress code?) instead and pair it with a blazer and a plain colored camisole (my red blazer from this post) but along the line, I tried on this mustard waistcoat and it just worked perfectly so I switched. I’ve styled this mustard waistcoat previously on the blog here, here, and here.

I wore this to church the other Sunday and then went to Hans and Rene (where I shot this look) afterward for my sugar fix. I think the location added an extra oomph to the pictures, what do you guys think?
Also, what do think of bell bottoms and high waisted flare jeans? What’s your current favorite style of denim to wear? Wide leg, skinny, boyfriend jeans, Mom? And how would you have styled this differently?

I was going to ask if you took the pictures in Nigeria ooo, they look really nice. You found the perfect fit and I like the pairing of mustard waistcoat and red shoes. I tried the flared pants trend last year but didn’t really like it as it was a bit short for me, would probably try it again cos I like how you Nailed it!

You didn’t find one your length? That’s strange *side eye* 😂
Thanks B! And I haven’t even mastered editing. Imagine if I have editing skills on fleek, the picture would have come out even better.
Love love love this look. The fact that the flared jeans can be styled in a smart casual way makes it more exciting. You did a good job styling it and also I have my eyes on the waist coat 😉

while these trousers with flare popular known(back then) as ‘fela trouser’ is no more the in thing in Nigerian fashion today, you perfectly made it worth trying out.
This is really cool on you.
Recently got into the flare pants trend and bought myself a few pieces and I lovee them!!! But apparently people as skinny as me aren’t supposed to have my length of legs so it’s always a struggle finding one that doesn’t stop mid leg so I feel you on that. (and I’m not even tall -_-
But but, you nailed this look!!! Love it
