When you live in a city like mine, one that is set up in a manner determined to raise your blood pressure a little higher everyday, you learn to unplug in whatever little ways you can.

So when I found out about the Jaybee beach camp – A beach house located in Tarkwa Bay, one of my favorite beaches in Lagos, I knew that soon come, like they say – Tarkwa way will be the sure way to unplug.

The thing that makes us a compatible duo is this – whilst I’m good at bringing up ideas, Alex is good at solidifying plans. Putting a date and budget to it so that it becomes a thing that is within reach.

And so it happened that just a few weeks after putting the idea to her, it became a reality. We had done a more intensive research and garnered a few extra interested people via social media -enough to reduce costs and make a party out of the trip.

So we set out on Friday to our take off point which was the Mekwe jetty (AKA checkpoint) opposite the Bonny camp in V. I.

The boat ride cost us N1000 (2000 to and fro) per person as opposed to the N750 I paid the last time I made a trip down there.

You can say you’re going to Jaybee so they drop you at a point that’s close to the beach camp and you don’t have to walk a long distance.

Jaybee Beach Camp Review + Experience. A cabin at the Jaybee beach camp tarkwa bay Lagos Cabin at the Jaybee beach camp in lagosJaybee Beach Camp cabin house tarkwa bay Lagos Jaybee Beach Camp stairs to the cabin

The Jaybee beach camp is one of the beach houses in Tarkwa bay. They have three cabin like beach houses that fit six people each, regular rooms, as well as a cafe/restaurant.

I wasn’t expecting anything as aesthetically pleasing as our lake house in Cotonou so I wasn’t disappointed.

We pre-booked two cabins (Beach view and Bay watch cabins) and one of the regular rooms.

The Jaybee website states that the cabin fits 6 people (but low-key it can actually fit 8 people) and costs N50,000 per cabin for a night. The regular room costs N20,000 and fits 2 people.

The bathroom/toilet was located below the cabins, and this is one thing that I wasn’t a huge fan of. Having to climb up and down every time I wanted to use the bathroom (and especially in the middle of the night) wasn’t exciting to me.

Although, we had no worries with security and funny enough, no mosquitoes at night.Toilet at Jaybee beach camp Grill at Jaybee beach camp Jaybee also houses a restaurant – The tarkwa cafe which was one of the biggest disappointment of our stay there. The menu was limited, order took too long, chef was a man obviously unused to apologizing for his wrong and the food was overpriced. The quantity was definitely not worth the coins.

They allow you come with your own food so you can actually come prepared with a lot of things to eat.

For fun, we kept ourselves occupied with games, a karaoke session which was the highlight of my time there, heart felt conversations and of course lounging by the beach.

I had an amazing time connecting with new people and just unplugging from the Lagos life.

The manager/host is a friendly and warm lady called Eniola and I have to give her kudos for being extremely helpful throughout our stay .
