Camping On The Beach In Lagos.
When you live in a city like mine, one that is set up in a manner determined to raise your blood pressure a little higher everyday, you learn to unplug in whatever little ways you can.
So when I found out about the Jaybee beach camp – A beach house located in Tarkwa Bay, one of my favorite beaches in Lagos, I knew that soon come, like they say – Tarkwa way will be the sure way to unplug.

I nursed the idea of having a weekend staycation at the Jaybee beach camp for a few months before sharing with my friend Alex (You might remember her from the Ghana trip, Cotonou trip and Epe Mangrove trip)
The thing that makes us a compatible duo is this – whilst I’m good at bringing up ideas, Alex is good at solidifying plans. Putting a date and budget to it so that it becomes a thing that is within reach.
And so it happened that just a few weeks after putting the idea to her, it became a reality. We had done a more intensive research and garnered a few extra interested people via social media -enough to reduce costs and make a party out of the trip.

Click To TweetThe plan was to spend the weekend and two nights at Jaybee beach camp. So we set out on Friday to our take off point which was the Mekwe jetty (AKA checkpoint) opposite the Bonny camp in V. I.
The boat ride cost us N1000 (2000 to and fro) per person as opposed to the N750 I paid the last time I made a trip down there.
You can say you’re going to Jaybee so they drop you at a point that’s close to the beach camp and you don’t have to walk a long distance.

Jaybee Beach Camp Review + Experience.
The Jaybee beach camp is one of the beach houses in Tarkwa bay. They have three cabin like beach houses that fit six people each, regular rooms, as well as a cafe/restaurant.
I wasn’t expecting anything as aesthetically pleasing as our lake house in Cotonou so I wasn’t disappointed.
We pre-booked two cabins (Beach view and Bay watch cabins) and one of the regular rooms.
The Jaybee website states that the cabin fits 6 people (but low-key it can actually fit 8 people) and costs N50,000 per cabin for a night. The regular room costs N20,000 and fits 2 people.
The cabins were pretty comfortable and had the basic necessities – towels, fans, fridge, electric kettle etc. Their Wi-Fi doesn’t work (which is a damn shame) so don’t bank on having free Wi-Fi.
The bathroom/toilet was located below the cabins, and this is one thing that I wasn’t a huge fan of. Having to climb up and down every time I wanted to use the bathroom (and especially in the middle of the night) wasn’t exciting to me.
Although, we had no worries with security and funny enough, no mosquitoes at night.Jaybee also houses a restaurant – The tarkwa cafe which was one of the biggest disappointment of our stay there. The menu was limited, order took too long, chef was a man obviously unused to apologizing for his wrong and the food was overpriced. The quantity was definitely not worth the coins.
They allow you come with your own food so you can actually come prepared with a lot of things to eat.
For fun, we kept ourselves occupied with games, a karaoke session which was the highlight of my time there, heart felt conversations and of course lounging by the beach.
I had an amazing time connecting with new people and just unplugging from the Lagos life.
The manager/host is a friendly and warm lady called Eniola and I have to give her kudos for being extremely helpful throughout our stay .

Same! When I found out, I was really happy. You should give it a try
Cassandra oh! You people had me glued to my insta stories your whole trip.
Great post as always ❤️
Question; do they have a kitchenette like the Cotonou cabin so we can actually make our meals?
Because I hate having to compromise on my food 😭😂
Lool we are very sorry. 😂
Thank you!
Unfortunately no kitchenette but they have a grill.
I have been and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. We brought our own food and it eventually ended up being too much food for us so that’s the best idea I think. I stayed there for just one night and I have to say it was my most relaxing experience ever. I’m not a connoisseur of experiences but I definitely enjoyed this one. Had a mini photo shoot at the private beach, had a barbecue and grill thing for asun and gizdodo. Brought a lot of provision and snacks. We had someone bring food the next day. It was wonderful all in all. And it’s a place I will probably go back to for a getaway a couple of times before I’m tired of tarkwa bay.
Awww sounds really good! That asking someone to bring food the next day is actually very key. I don’t know why we didn’t think of it to be very honest.
Thank you so much for this comment!
I need to visit this place. Looks beautiful
