Hey Guyssss!
Although, I wouldn’t exactly call this my first sewing experience because I made some pretty awesome aprons during home economics class, back in secondary school.
Learning to sew has been on my bucket list forever now, which in itself is pretty shameful because my mum does a neat job.
Now you might be wondering why I haven’t learnt since I have a mum that sews but I wanted the real deal, learning from someone who made a living from sewing and who would be patient enough to deal with my slow pace. That, plus plain ol’ laziness.
My sister recently signed up to learn under a tailor and she has been tensioning everyone at home with the lovely outfits she is already making and that has inspired me even more to learn. So when the opportunity for me to finally get some practical lessons presented itself in the form of a sewing workshop put together by Blogger and sewista Nedoux, I had to jump at it!
I mentioned that I was going to attend the workshop in this post and a couple of people asked me to do a recap post so if you did, this is for you!
I got to the venue a teeny bit late and immediately fell in love with the location. It was perfect! Unfortunately, the rain decided to ruin my chances of taking pictures there.
Nedoux put together for everyone a bag of the basic sewing tools we were going to be needing and even though that was to be expected, I still thought it was really nice.
We started off with the theory bit, sewing terminologies and a bit of gists here and there. Although I enjoyed the light banter, I was itching to get into the real work and couldn’t wait to get started proper.
Time wasn’t really on our side, so we all couldn’t fully complete our skirts but we definitely got the basic knowledge and framework down.
Yay, I wish I had been there. I think it's time to look for a sewing club here or go back to where I took 2 classes.
Lovely skirts by the way.

Pretty skirts there..I also want to learn how to sew but time, hopefully I'd get around to it.. Glad to know the class was a success
I really like Nedu's idea, it's a good one and I think it was the right push you needed to set that 'sewing fire' burning LOL. Sadly my place is too far for you to come and learn, we have good and affordable tailors here. Can't wait to see you burst our brains with your self-made outfits so we dey wait for you.

All those munchies and drinks at a sewing club😍….so dope!
Plus sewing is a refreshing skill to learn…get to make your own clothes when you have the time and when you are swarmed with work and decide to give another Tailor to sew for you; the anxiety of she isn't as good as you might be a problem😂

First of all let me say the food looks really yummy! Lol and you ladies did a good work on the skirts. It seems like everyone around me is learning how to sew, I might eventually have to learn too😩.

I would definitely have attended if I was in Lagos! Nedu is doing so much, and all the events looking well put together. your photos are nice. My sewing sucks!! I cant even sew a button, and my husband is always laughing at me (not like he can sha). But I'll really LOVE to sew. The next free time I have, I'm definitely taking this up! I wish I took Home-Econs more serious in school. I could actually try then and I once even knitted. Ah. Good old days!

Really? LoL! Everyome can see a button Kachi! Okay okay I'm not judging 😂
I used to knit too and I can hand sew and tack some things at least.
Hopefully, you will use the http://www.needleplus.com Style app to find style inspirations when next you want to sew.
Really cute skirt by the way. Trust me, you will never regret learning to sew. Its one of those few skills with life-long applications.
Hey Howard! I know I've been MIA, forgive me. Great job with the site too!
And Thank you! It is definitely a lifelong skill. My mum still sees her own stuff when she wants and this is something she learnt when she was younger than I am now.
Yeaa I've alws wanted to learn to sew. I can sketch my outfits tho and give to the tailor but don't actually know how to do the sewing which I''d love to. Nice one!
You should oh! Since you can even sketch sef. It will just gel very well
Hi Cassie,
Thank you so much for putting this up, very kind of you. The photos are really great.
Lol… I know right! Hand-sewing can be tasking but it's an essential part of dressmaking. Ah, I'm definitely introducing sewing machines at the next class.
It's funny how organising and teaching these sewing classes has been a learning experience for me too. 🙂
You are a good teacher and you did a great job!!
Sewing is super important especially for a woman.I learnt to sew from my mum and it's come in handy when I have to sew buttons on uniforms and all those unexpected rips. I will like to take classes too especially so I can make dresses for my girls.

I agree with you. Shebi back then that was one of the important skills they felt women should be taught (and not going to school)
That's an asides though, I just remembered that fact.
Thanks for reading Cheechee
I am learning how to sew currently but it's on the small scale but trust me it's fun and annoying most times. When you get the hang of it,its gonna be awesome
Wow nice skirts. Am thinking of taking sewing lessons too when I get back to school. Cant wait to start.
Really nice. I learnt how to sew myself. I just remember always knowing how to. However, I don't quite know my way around a machine yet. I can still make good stuff with a machine but I think I need expert help.
Great review as always.

I tried sewing on one of my breaks from school. It was great but school resumed and I lost touch. I really hope I can take it up professionally after law school. Great post BTW,and the food looks yummmmmmmmyy.
Seems like you learnt a lot and had so much fun. Maybe I'll go for the next one. Oh, and kudos to you kicking something off your bucket list!

This about sums up my experience at Nedu's first class. I had learned basics in Home ec and been doing small small DIY refurbishing forever, but I wanted to learn properly. I even asked a tailor close to my apartment when I was in school but it was too expensive. Such a key life skill as you said. Nedu is a great teacher.
Great pics. I kinda wish I had held out for the second class cos your food looks lit! Lol
Interesting club for ladies! I've also wanted to learn it like forever, and during service year, I decided to go ahead with it, but it wasn't easy, considering work. But books and DIY videos has really helped me. You can practically get how to sew anything online… Which is one resource I'm taking advantage of. But i'm not yet perfect, but my experience is better than it used to be. 🙂
And the food looks lit as Sandra said. Lol!
This is really impressive! You guys did all that in one day. Sewing isn't as difficult as I think it is after all. Now I'm gingered to go and learn. Beautiful skirts I must say.

I know how to sew. Learnt it as my SAED project during NYSC. Made a few things but I currently don't have time to sew anymore, work and all.
But it's a very good skill to learn. Welldone cassie
