Lately, I’ve been trying to see more of and visit new spots in Lagos. I’ve lived in Lagos all my life but only just really started experiencing/exploring the city and this inspired my Lagos living series. Growing up was pretty much a caged experience and it took getting a bit of freedom to really define myself and my interests.
I love artsy creative spaces – places with soul and history, nature parks and I love colonial style buildings so it was only natural that the Jaekel house Lagos will be on my ever growing list of places to visit.

Visiting the Jaekel house Lagos has been a long time coming. I’d been seeing a lot of images of Jaekel house floating around social media and somehow I’ve always managed to miss all the events held there (Like the recent Jollof festival). Last weekend, I had a free day off work and made a mental note to tick off a few places off my list. Jaekel house made the cut.
It is a classic colonial building located within the grounds of the Nigerian Railway Compound in Ebute-Metta but now functions as a mini Museum and photo Exhibition center celebrating the prime of the Nigerian Railway Corporation during colonial times.
Unfortunately, it was locked when I visited and as a result I could only gain access to the grounds and couldn’t go into the building to check out the museum. The beautiful garden made up for this though. It is such a calm beautiful place that instantly elevated my mood.
Quick fun fact: I’ve always wanted an outdoor/garden type wedding with lots of greenery, exotic flowers, creative little touches, and just all round good vibes. Never did think it was going to be easy finding a suitable location here in Nigeria but the Jaekel house Lagos just proved otherwise.
But I digress. This isn’t a wedding or marriage post, I just wanted to chip it in somehow that I think I may have found my wedding location (whenever that happens). hehe
The Jaekel House Lagos Secret Garden Is All The Feels! Check It Out Here! Click To TweetI was going to be stopping by at a quaint record store/cafe after visiting Jaekel house so I chose an outfit that made me feel like I belonged right in that setting too. The big hair came out to play, my vintage print shirt featured here previously and this culottes shorts that I’ve styled previously here.
I love the culottes trend, although I didn’t quite rock it during its time in the fashion lime light. Culottes shorts particularly have my heart! Is it a skirt? Is it a shorts? We may never know! Love how it keeps people guessing.
Here's how to style the awkward length culottes shorts for a cool vintage look! Click To TweetI’ve been wearing this flat shoes I picked up from the market non-stop for the past few days now (featured in my post on my wardrobe essentials here), the bag was a find from my trip to the Lekki arts and crafts market , the sunglasses from my haul here, and the slay is ALL ME!
Ever been to Jaekel house? What did you think of it?
What are some of your fav spots in Lagos? And let me know your thoughts on my outfit and the culottes shorts!

The first paragraph of this post is my truth! I strongly believe now is the time to start exploring Lagos because it is a beautiful story and beautiful memories will be made while I explore it.
I also love your outfit in this post, especially the shirt because it reminds of something that I can’t vividly remember right now, and I see myself styling my favorite vintage shirt like this.
