Eat. Rice. Repeat.
First off, I have a toxic relationship with rice. I probably need to stay off rice if I want my summer body to be ready anytime soon but will I? Of course not. So when my friend mentioned the Rice restaurant Lekki – a new restaurant that serves different varieties of rice, I was sold.
It didn’t help that some of my faves had visited the restaurant and had only good things to say about it. I guess we can say FOMO got me real bad here.
Rice restaurant Lekki is located at the jubilee mall on admiralty road and they serve just rice. Yup. Just rice But different varieties and with different toppings. I checked it out over two months ago and immediately knew that I was going to have to do a review here. Partly because I think it’s an interesting concept and also because it’s content (of course!)
I visited on a Saturday evening with a friend and was happy to see that it wasn’t chock full of people. I despise rowdy restaurants, and this would have been bad had it been rowdy because it’s a really small and dimly lit space.
That was the first shocker for me because from the pictures I saw on Instagram, it looked like somewhere I could take really nice pictures. I’m not sure what I was expecting but definitely not that small. Don’t get me wrong, the decor is actually pretty nice and tastefully done. But I personally just can’t get over the size, I’m sorry.
The waiters were helpful and patient, explaining how it worked and generally walking us through the process even though there were flyers scattered around to guide us.
The rice bowl comes in two sizes – the regular and large size. Both have fixed prices that cover a choice of 2 sides (for regular size), 3 sides (for large), a protein, sauce, toppings and the rice base (Jollof, fried, coconut, Ofada, white rice, etc).
What this means is that when you select the bowl size and the rice base you want, you then choose the sauce, protein, and sides. All for a fixed price. You can get extra servings of any of the sides or proteins but at an added cost.
There's a new restaurant in Lekki that serves only rice! Yup, Just rice. I checked it out and here's what I think! Click To Tweet
I got the coconut rice- regular bowl size with assorted meat, plantain and a couple of other things I can’t remember now, while my friend got Jollof rice. The rice in itself wasn’t anything special, It wasn’t bad but it also was pretty forgettable. Although, it’s a bit affordable (when you put into consideration the branding and aesthetics) so there’s that. The regular bowl costs N1450 and the large costs N1980.
Would I be visiting the Rice restaurant Lekki again? Maybe. Although, I went back again after church the next week because I wanted to treat my uncle to post-church grubs and I knew he’d be excited about an all rice restaurant. I wasn’t disappointed, he loved it and couldn’t stop going on about how it was a great idea. I agree with him here.
Have you been to the Rice restaurant lekki? What do you think about the idea of a rice only restaurant?
Let me know your thoughts if you have and let’s connect!
