How To Nail The Smart – Casual Dress Code

First outfit post of the year! Yayy!

I could have sworn that I already started this post sometime ago and saved in my draft but its nowhere to be found. The case of the missing blog post? Haha

Alright, Let’s talk about dress codes for a bit. I have a love-hate relationship with them. On one hand, it saves me some stress on thinking up what to wear while on the other hand there’s no excuse for me to dress in my usual funky way.

Smart – Casual is one dress code I love to see though! Because hey when you’re more inclined to a casual laid back style, you’ll definitely appreciate an event that lets you retain a bit of that.

How do you feel about dresscodes and which is your favorite dress code?

If you’ve ever wondered what “smart casual is all about, here’s a quick trick to decoding this dress code that I picked up from blogger Thechroniclesofher

Think Two parts ‘smart’ and one part ‘casual’.

I’m wearing the queen of casual wear (T-shirt!) which is this really cool tee I got from the lovely people over @Awe_Lagos last year ( Go check them out on Instagram! They have some pretty dope tees) While my pants and heels serve to make the look a bit more “smart”.
I’ve had this pants forever, it used to have suspenders attached to it  and I’ve only worn it like twice but now that I see how lovely it is, I’ll definitely wear it out more.

What do you guys think of this look?
What’s your own interpretation of smart – casual?

I wore this to the dolce & gabanna event that I blogged about in this weekend bits post. Though the event didn’t exactly state a dress code, I wasn’t entirely sure if to be casual or dressy but because the brand ‘dolce & gabanna’ is a luxury brand, I decided to go for the fail safe “smart casual’ dress code. Something I immediately regretted when I walked in to see people in sneakers and super casual outfits but hey better to be over dressed than under dressed right?.

It feels so good to be back home (in Lagos!), in my bed typing this up. Just being back here has lifted my spirits x 100 : the familiar air, familiar environments, familiar faces and things to do. Its true that home isn’t necessarily where you come from but where your heart is.
