First style post of the year and I’m talking styling the skirt and sneakers trend! Whoop!
To be honest, I struggled with this style post. I wasn’t sure what to title it, what angle to approach the post from or what style type/theme to fit this look into. It doesn’t quite qualify as casual, smart-casual doesn’t cut it either, neither does athleisure or quirky. You can imagine the fix I was in.
I spent a significant amount of time looking through the pictures, waiting for the light bulb moment and was just about going with the flow when it hit me – the skirt and sneakers trend!

Click To TweetIf you’ve been around for a while, you probably know that I’m a sneakerhead and I always look for any opportunity to put on kicks. The awesome part of my sneaker addiction? They are always in style and can be worn with literally anything – Including skirts!
I remember seeing the (midi) skirt and sneakers trend back then and loving it instantly, although I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. Well, looking at this outfit, I’d say that I definitely pulled it off well!

Today’s post highlight, however, isn’t exactly just the “skirt and sneakers look” but this absolutely lovely button down skirt I thrifted. I rarely wear skirts and would never buy one as an impulse buy but with this, it was love at first sight.
My first thought was to style it with more than a few buttons open to mid-thigh level and with a white camisole (which I also immediately thrifted on the spot because I’m one of those people that shop with a picture in my head and try to style whatever I’m buying).
Although the skirt and camisole mix was stunning on its own, I decided to give the whole look a modern vibe by throwing on my favorite denim jacket, Kurt Cobain sunglasses and of course, white sneakers!
What do you guys think of this look and how would you style it differently? Also, please help a sister out here – if you were to fit this look into a style type, what would you call it?

First of all, love the look! Second of all, love the look. I love the site a lot.
Aww Thank you so much!! I truly appreciate this comment. Sometimes, I wish there was a way to print nicecomments like this and make into a collage to be hung on my wall. Too extra? Lmao
Love the shots of you in this this post & love the ensemble. I would probably style this with a different length skirt – mini or full length. I really like midi skirts but they tend to look weird on me.
Thank you Tiese. You the the crazy thing? It’s opposite for me. I haven’t quite wrapped my head around maxi dresses/skirts and sneakers. Looks great on others but still feels like i look weird when I try it
would it go under retro?
Love the whole outfit and that skirt is to die for.
off to see if I can find it anywhere.

Hmm. I don’t think so. There’s nothing really retro about any of the pieces. My friend said boho chic plus grunge lmao.
Love the look👌🏽You’re an amazing blogger and I’ll definitely try this look out. Meanwhile, kindly check out my blog ‘www.mushlifestyle.com’. Thank you😘
Off to check out your site now. Thank you so much for the compliment🕺🏾
I love the look! And the shots are amazing! I’m not really sure the midi and sneakers would work for me though..because small ankles sigh* but then short skirts seems to maje it work.
I’m like you when t comes to midi skirts and sneakers. But I’ve seen people style it so well!
I really love this look, you look amazing and Fab
Hey booooooo! Thank you!
The pictures! ❤ The look! ❤ The skirt! I love love. This Style is actually in between the athleisure look and the chic look.
I thought of athleisure too but decided that just because I’m wearing sneakers doesn’t make it athleiaure. Though I definitely get your angle and tbh that’s the best description so far lool
I rarely wear skirts too, but I love how you have styled this striped skirt and the cowries choker so chic.
Love your outfit. I feel girl writing a style post is sometimes very difficult. I would probably title it : Street Style Chic!
This is amazing and I love the skirt style. I tried this once with a bandage skirt and the ccompliments were non stop. I think I’d try it again and blog about it 😁 Love your sunglasses too
I love your skirt because I am all for stripes…nice posture by the way
