Lagos Living || Tarkwa Bay Weekend.

WHEN THE BEACH CALLS.

I’ve been meaning to go to the beach forever because its been a long while since I’ve been to one, so when my friend Banke (from this post) proposed we go to tarkwa bay, I was definitely game. Though I had to try and overcome some residual fear of getting on a boat. The first time I went to tarkwa bay some years back, the boat stopped working mid way back – it was so scary! And I made a promise not to get on another one if I made it out alive. Lool

Anyways, so we eventually settled on a date but last minute, two of my friends dropped out which would have initially made me change my mind also but I was determined to see this through regardless and I’m glad I did
Tarkwa Bay is only accessible by water route and I hear there are various jetty points you can take a boat ride to get there, along the marina and Victoria Island route. I left all of the planning/decisions to my friend and she chose the jetty by the bridge after bonny camp (where you usually see them sell fishes).
I was a bit skeptical about the boats (or canoes?) because they looked sort of rickety but they were pretty good and the ride was even fun! The boat ride cost N500 per person and we got there within 20minutes or so.
There is an entrance fee of 200Naira and additional fees to get a tent and chairs. They tried to scam us though, but we haggled the price down to 1500 for four chairs and a tent.

I really like how serene the beach is compared to elegushi and co. Unfortunately, there isn’t anywhere to buy food or drinks, so you have to come with yours and also some games to play with – if you’re the type that gets bored easily.

The few vendors you’ll find at the beach are coconut sellers (speaking of which, I just realized I’m not a fan of that coconut drink thing or maybe its just the one I had that wasn’t nice), swim wear, beads and art work vendors.
I went armed with my pack of wilsons lemonade, I just recently became a wilsons addict and I’ve succeeded in transforming my family members too. :’)

I didn’t take lots of pictures unfortunately, even though I carried my camera along with me. Majorly because we got there a bit late, spent the first few minutes trying to get settled and before I knew it, it was time to leave. It pained me gan oh, because I carried my blog planner along and some other books to settle down, enjoy the view and try to get some work done.

But hey! I finally gathered courage to start the number three thing on my 25 before 25 list. I don’t think I’ll be wearing a full on bikini anytime soon sha because I didn’t really see the point of me changing to a bikini top to just lie on a chair on the beach, when I could have as well worn my camisole (I’m old school *sigh*)

I took majority of these pictures with my infinix hot 3! (Bear in mind that I’ve also cropped the pictures with instagram and reduced the size as well)
I am so so impressed with this phone guys! Its not called a “lifestyle phone” for bants. The camera quality is bae – perfect for pictures for the blog and even videos.
The whole user experience (fonts, customizations, keypad, gbo gbo eh) too is lit – I didn’t come here to do phone review sha but if you’re looking to buy a new budget friendly phone especially because of camera upgrade, you should check out the infinix hot 3 here.
I received the phone recently courtesy the good people at infinix (the blog market is movingggg!) but trust me not to hype something I don’t believe in.

Have you ever been to tarkwa bay?
What was your experience like?
Meanwhile, how’s the new week treating you ey?
Leave me your thoughts and let’s connect!

P.S : You might have missed these

  • Tarkwa bay is just wonderful. I've been twice and loved the whole experience. I can't stand Elegushi especially, so this and the private beaches are it for me.
The coconut drink thing, does it taste any different from the water in regular coconuts? Haven't done this exotic coconut straw-sipping myself

    • I think so ohh, because the main coconut ones I drink are sweet. This one was sort of salty and I didn't like it, but then again maybe it's just the one I had because my friends all liked it.

  • Hanhan hottie! see the way you just teased us with that picture. I have never been to tarkwa bay and I've heard many stories from my friends, I think I'd go this year sha. I wish you took more pictures though.

  • Oh such fun! I always enjoy going to the beach, though it's been a long while since i did that.

If you haven't, if you can, try to visit Whispering Palms or the main beach in Badagry, they are super nice and the long distance from the city hubs keeps then clean and quiet.

The coconut thing they serve at Whispering palms are great. They are kept fresh and refrigerated so you get them sweet and cold, then they pluck out the soft milky flesh for you to eat when you are done with the 'water'. yum.
Also, you can speed-boat, swim in a regular pool, eat grilled fish and such, pick almonds and mangoes, see some monkeys at their little zoo, some history and art in their mini museum, and lots more. They have rooms for lodging too.

And our collective hearts are broken for lack of the full-bikini pics, but we'll wait *grin*

    • Hey girl! Lol, shey you want to take me there? I know if whispering palms, my class went there for some retreat thing but isn't it a tad but expensive? Lool. Biko, let me enjoy this budget friendly one for now

    • Ah Cassie, with the way this your blog 'markate' is going, you will soon be the one hosting us at the Whispering Palms all expense paid…

Badagry beach is still okay sha, compared to those Oniru/Elegushi ones (tueh!)

  • Hi Cassie,

Looks like you had fun. I've been hearing about Tarkwa Bay since I was a kid, but I've never been. Ah! I cannot swim, so the thought of being stranded on faulty boat is nightmarish.

Lol. Your blogging "markate" is selling very well, the pictures from the Infinix phone are very clear. That bikini top pic is so vogue magazine. 🙂

Enjoy the rest of the week.

  • Ooooh, nice one @ the phone!

Never been to Tarkwa Bay – what's the correct spelling? Sometimes you see Tarkwa, and other times Takwa.

Anyways, I loved boat rides. Absolutely love them. I guess being a Rivers girl is really ingrained into my bones – hence my beach wedding and loving all things water.

The photos are nice. I think my fave is the silhouette on the beach sand.

  • Cassie you have a gorgeous stature any girl would die for in this century! Lol, but really please try on a full bikini jo.

I've actually never been to this beach but it seems so similar to the one in my area (Satelite Town), you have to get there through a boat too. Would def try it soon; or could it be the same beach?

My favorite picture is the one you had a bikini top on with your hat. I love.
Between Cassie kindly follow me back on ig na? **sobs**

  • Haha blog market is moving ooo Loool! This looks like a fun experience and serene too, that elegushi is not for everyone been there once and never going back! But I'd have to learn how to swim first before I play this tarkwa bay rough play!

  • Ayyyy… I absolutely love going to the beach. I remember going to Tarkwa Bay for during sea school back in secondary school. I thought I was the only one scared of wearing bikinis. I was shopping for swimwear for the summer recently and it's almost only bikinis mehn I'm tired.

  • So about the coconut thing, what they sell on the beach is unripe coconut and the water in unripe coconut is the original sugar-salt solution(God's wonders,ey). Anyway,my aunty tells me that back in the day before there were hospitals and stuff, whenever someone fainted in the village, they will rush off and pluck an unripe coconut and force its juice into the person's mouth. And each time, the person revived.
The long and short of it is unripe coconut water is healthy. Our salt-sugar solutions are patterned after it. So whenever y

  • I was just about to ask about the phone or camera you used to this pictures. The quality is dope!
I've been to Tarkwa Bay but wasn't impressed (maybe I'm too hard to please). The place isn't neat and the fact that we couldn't find anything reasonable to buy also pained me. Even when we were leaving, there was no boat to take us back, we had to trek through a bushy path before we could get away. I don't think I would like to visit again.
