Taking Stock, Life Lately + Making My First Six Digits From Blogging.

Cassie daves at hans and renecassie daves at hans and reneHey Guys!

How’s it going? I know I haven’t been as consistent with the blog lately and honestly, this time around unlike my first blog break, it was majorly because I kept procrastinating writing a post and then eventually just couldn’t decide which of my many drafts to start with.

I finally decided to just ease back into blogging again with an update, life lately post and also share a few highlights of my month. It’s been so long that I actually sat down to take stock of my Month, I’ve basically just been winging life out here.

The previous month, I couldn’t think of a single thing that gassed me up enough or made me happy asides from being thankful for life, but this past month took a turn for the better.

For one, I finally rounded up my housemanship year!cassie daves housemanship in nigeria

I already talked about rounding up my housemanship year and plans moving forward on the blog here. It’s been about a month now and I’m still soaking in all the freedom. Getting out of that 12 – 12 life was definitely one of my best parts of September.

Got selected for the GTBank fashion weekend.Cassie daves at the gtbank fashion weekend model casting gtbank fashion weekend model casting

If you follow me on Instagram (Go follow me! I’m @cassiedaves),  you probably already know this. I shared snippets of the GTBank Fashion weekend model casting on my instastory and then later announced that I was going to be walking the runway for the fashion weekend early next month.

Attending the model casting was one of those “let me just go do this” type of decisions. I have long accepted that my modeling years are behind me, but I figured that with my new found freedom, I might as well do something I enjoy.

Modeling started this whole fashion thing for me, and although I don’t do it actively anymore, it will always be one of my first loves.

cassie daves at gtbank fashion weekend model castingI’m excited about all the content I would be curating for you guys from my GTBank fashion weekend experience. Just like the event last year, the model casting was super organized and well done (way better than any casting I’ve attended in all my modeling years) and I can already tell that it would be a fun experience for me. As usual, I will be sharing lots of behind the scene and also be giving away a few shopping cards to be spent at the fashion weekend so go follow me on Instagram to stay up to date!

I put together a little vlog of my day and the GTBank Fashion weekend model casting up on youtube and you can either watch it above or right here. It’s my very first video and first time editing one, so please subscribe and let me know your thoughts on my first vlog.

Went on my first large group travelNigerian travellers at entrance of Erin Ijesha waterfall

If you can count eight people as a large group, well yes! I already blogged about my road trip to Osun state to conquer the Erin Ijesha waterfalls here but what I didn’t talk about in that post was how good the trip made me feel.

It might just be me being my usual emotional mushy self but there’s just something about being a part of something bigger than just you – connecting with people, and being welcomed into their circle.

For me, it’s a priceless feeling. Erin Ijesha was way more than just the whole road trip thrill and striking something off my travel bucket list, it was also the bonding, the making of new friends and the sharing of new experiences.

Made my first six digits from blogging.Nigerian fashio

Ah, what can I say? I’ve been blogging consistently for four years now and I think it’s about time! haha. Jokes asides though, this year started out super slow for me “blogging wise” thanks to my housemanship. I took my first over a month break from the blog and somewhere along the way, also lost my blogging mojo.

All that coupled with the fact that working with brands in Nigeria as a blogger can be quite frustrating as a lot of them never have budgets for blogger collaborations, I generally wasn’t so focused on working with brands but these past few months God came through for me and I made my first six digits from a single blog collaboration.

The lesson learned from this was to just keep doing the work regardless, focus on yourself and improving your skill and everything good will eventually come.

Got My Second Blog Award.Cassie daves blog award plaque from the blogger point

Well, this actually happened late August but I didn’t get to find out until September and only just finally received the award the other day. I honestly didn’t think I was going to get this award as I didn’t put it out for people to vote for me, so it came as a pleasant surprise.

If you nominated and voted for me to win this, you can have all my money! Thank you so much! Check out my first blog award here.

So what does life lately look like for me?

Making: Well, lots and lots of trips to gelato heaven – Hans and Rene with me constantly complaining about how broke it is making me. It’s a very unhealthy relationship I have with Hans and Rene

Reading: More and more African literature! Following my post on jazz-hole Lagos and getting back my reading mojo, I’m glad to announce that it’s slowly coming back to me! I finished a book titled “Behold the dreamers” by Imbolo Mbue last night and prior to that, I read “Stay with me” by Ayobami Adebayo. Next up is Luvvie Ajayi’s – I’m judging you.

Excited: For fashion week! Both LFDW and of course, the GTBank fashion weekend. I hope that I’ll get to meet a lot of you guys soon!

Wishing: That I didn’t have to do this NYSC of a thing. Got my mobilization text this morning and it hit me that I just finished one year a slave, to get into another one. *sigh*

Working On: The 2018 blog planners!!! This year was literally the worst for me, I was so busy and couldn’t really handle the running of the 2017 blog planners fully. So I’m just really happy that I can be fully present for this one and can’t wait to share it with you guys! For now, I’m sharing snippets on my instastory so go follow me – @cassiedaves !

  • This would have been very funny reading out my expressions… From “yaaaay!” to “About time! to “Mbok, bring the money” and chaaaaaaaai on that NYSC note. Constantly shaking my head for that ice cream addiction 😂😂Why aren’t you brand ambassador yet?
I’m so happy for the 2018 blog planner and how you said you get to be really present. I hope you are it though: the beautiful pieces of your life keep coming together in really amazing ways. Don’t even try to predict it as such… let it take the form God will allow it to know that it’s all together BEAUTIFUL!

    • Hey April, last year’s GTBank fashion weekend was free but I don’t know about this one. Regardless, it’s way more than just the runway shows. So you can still come around as there will be plenty other activities

  • Yay Cassie! I’m honestly so happy for you, thanks for the inspiration. I’ve been going through the exact lack of my blogging mojo thing for two weeks, but it’s time to get back now.

  • Hello Cassie welcome back, I just discovered your blog and it is the real deal. My name is precious and it’s really great having you back.

  • You never know what surprises NYSC year would have in store! I’d assume you don’t have to do that in a hospital? You’d define though. Everything seems to be taking shape for you, and yes to much more income. You’ve been super consistent on this, so very well deserved!

  • Seems like this is your season Cassie, spread the jinx, I absolutely need some. Plus Gtb Fashion weekend, excited for that one. *fingers crossed work doesn’t get in the way*

  • Hey Cassie! I enjoyed watching the vlog, like every other person here apparently. You seem shy:) but then again, that’s okay. You’ll get into it well enough with time, so do continue. Plus I love what you wrote bout the Erin Ijesa trip, know one of the fellas from twitter (so was amazing to hear that you didn’t even know anyone of them firsthand) It inspires me. Haven’t read your blog in a while, but it really feels good reading again. Keep being You! :*

  • See you balling! I enjoyed the post as usual… really looking forward to GTbank’s Fashion Weekend too, I’m sure there will be plenty of street style. I’ve read Behold the Dreamers, absolutely looved and enjoyed reading it. And congrats on your award! Way to go😃
