A Hidden Gem In The Heart Of Surulere – Ofada Boy Restaurant Review.

It’s not often I find a restaurant in surulere that ticks all my boxes – perfect aesthetic, budget friendly food and low-key enough to have a good time without worrying about bumping into anyone that knows me.

Actually it’s a rarity. If you live in surulere, you’ll agree with me about how rare this occurrence is.

So when I happened upon the Ofada Boy restaurant on someone’s instastory and found out it was in my zones (surulere) and just a stone throw from my house, I immediately made plans to check it out the next day.

The Ambience. ofada boy restaurant surulere lagos ofada boy lagos Chair setting at the ofada boy restaurant in surulere

The Ofada boy restaurant is located at No 1 Mba street off adeniran ogunsanya. It is such a low-key spot that you can pass it and have no idea such a gem exists there.

Stepping in, it was easy to see that whoever put it together has a good eye and vision for the space. The branding was on point and everything was well put together with an Afrocentric vibe.

While waiting for my friends to arrive, I decided to sit inside the restaurant and have a look around. Unfortunately, I was too engrossed in the complimentary groundnut that was served and the amazing decor of the place that I forgot to take pictures of the inside.

The Ofada boy restaurant has a traditional feel apparent in both their decor, food presentation and their food menu. But all done in a very creative way that it doesn’t leave you feeling like you’re in a Bukka.

The waiters were dressed in African prints with a Yoruba style hat to complete the vibe. I thought it was a genius idea.

The Ofada boy restaurant started out majorly with Ofada rice and they have five different packages of the Ofada rice. But also offer a wide variety of Nigerian foods, from bush meat, right down to pepper soup and even a local herb drink that they serve as shots.

I didn’t get to really digest the menu because someone who I presume is the owner came around to “explain” their meals and helped us make a decision on what to get.

We got palm wine to calm our nerves while we waited for our food to be served.

I ended up ordering the Ofada rice classic package with turkey, which one of my friends also went for but with snail. While my other friend decided to go for the ijebu garri and fish combination. Imagine leaving your house to go and soak garri at a restaurant lol

The palm wine was really good! Not as bitter as some I’ve had and just perfect for me.

The Ofada rice was equally good and served with a side of plantain and boiled egg. The stew was packed with large chunks of meat and my friends & I had zero complains.
It wasn’t too spicy and not bland either, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

Asides from the good food and ambience, another thing that really impressed me was the customer service. Our every whim was immediately attended to and it was such a good change from some of the places I’ve been to recently.

This was the shared bill for all three of us. I got just the Ofada rice (complete with the side of plantain, egg and turkey) and water so my own total bill was just N2150. Pretty cost effective, if you ask me.

They also offer delivery services and you can call them using any of the numbers in the receipt image.
