Life Lately – Taking Stock, February Notes + OOTDs (x Giveaway Winners)

February.

February was for celebrating the little wins, like this ynaija feature. Like the unexpected email from whowhatwear. Like new connections that seemed to want to stay.

February was for taking new chances and giving second chances. For gaining clarity and counting my losses. February was for finding god in myself…

Nigerian blogger Cassie Daves posing at RELE gallery I haven’t done a recap/taking stock post in forever and didn’t intend to do one but I was brushing earlier today and had the first few lines of this post dropped into my heart in that fleeting way that inspiration comes. I wasn’t going to let it get away this time, so I grabbed my planner and fleshed it out a bit more.

You see, this past month was a mix of sorts. There were goals that didn’t quite reach actualization. Goals that did but not in the way that I envisaged. There were days that seemed never-ending and days I prayed would never end. Nonetheless, I can confidently say that February was in itself a good month.

Here’s a quick recap of what life lately looks like in taking stock format + a few OOTDs.

Making: An effort to be kinder and to do better at all times. And Making a list of all the skills I want to learn/sharpen and looking for ways to do that.

Eating: More and more pancakes! I’ve always been a fan of pancakes but for some reason, I just can’t seem to get enough of it lately. I’m currently eating pancakes as I type this.

I also tried to eat a bit more as well. Your girl lost some weight and got hit with a mild case of “body dysmorphism”. I felt skinny and would change outfits a couple of times just because I thought I looked too skinny in all my clothes. I’m not sure I’ve gained much weight back but I’m managing it a bit better now.

Playing:  Pink! Stale right? A few weeks back, I re-read a note I wrote in 2013 where I mentioned some of my fave songs at the time with Pink’s -Who knew headlining it. Of course, I went on the net to download it and it’s been stuck on replay ever since.

Nigerian fashion blogger Cassie Daves taking stock for FebruaryReading: Books! I can imagine you rolling your eyes at this because, duh! Lol. After my post on regaining my reading culture, I’m proud to announce that I, in fact, did regain a bit of it.

This past month, I read a couple of books but my most notable one was Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing. The book is a solid one. I don’t have words to explain it other than to say “Drop everything you’re doing and Go read it”! Now!

Understanding: That letting go is hard but sometimes it’s the only way to move forward.

Loving: Perfume Oils! And Wondering why I’m just knowing about it. I recently purchased a set of perfume oil samples from ScentsbyBookieKunlere and I don’t think I’ll be turning back anytime soon. They are cheaper and last for a long time. Plus I get to have more than one at a time. Win!

Knowing: That everything go dey alright last last.Cassie Daves February Recap Nigerian medical doctor Cassiee Davees February Taking stock

Wishing: For more peaceful moments and that my heart remains as full as it felt in February.

Excited: Because the Easter break is on its way! I have a trip to the east planned and super excited for that. *fingers crossed nothing ruins it*

Realizing: What I’ll really like to do with my life or at least this current phase of my life. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I’ve been in the process of figuring out my “what next”. I knew the things I have a passion for but didn’t know what industry to fit them into other than the broad title of “Creative industry”.

Now, it’s having the courage to go after it and mapping out the steps/strategy to get started with this. I applied for/had an interview for a brand communications associate position recently but yet to get feedback.

Wondering: Why this NYSC thing has to be stressful and disorganized. I successfully redeployed to Lagos and currently on a PPA hunt. I was posted to a hospital but got rejected because they already had too many corper doctors.

Hoping: That regardless of whatever happens with this work/PPA thing, I find a place where I can grow in and sharpen my skills even more.

Wearing: A tube top and shorts because it is not me that this Lagos heat will kill. It really isn’t me.

Feeling: A mix of emotions. Thankful, unsure of some situations I’ve found myself in recently and wondering what the lesson I’m meant to pick from it is but trusting God regardless. Do you sometimes wonder why you meet certain people? Is there really a reason for everyone you’ve met/developed a sort of relationship with?

I’ll really like to know what you think about that question.

Please share As always, Please leave me your thoughts, experiences/ lessons in February and what you’re looking forward to this new month!

  • i like the breath of fresh air that i get here. There is purpose in relationships, but your mind can play you into thinking that you have to hold onto a person or thing to really understand the “why”.
Don’t hold on if it hurts badly, trust me.
The mix emotions i would say means, your pressing into deeper things soon. I can relate to this. don’t wave it off. Stay in it, think through it and boom the answer of what next will pop up.

    Your smart!
    Stay Woke. lol

  • Well good for you Cassie. You’re not alone in the ‘Lagos Heat’ business and I sure do hope you find a good place to work.
I do think there’s a reason for every sort of relationship. Some are well defined from the start, others, probably not. Also, it may take a while to discover why, but eventually we realise why we ever met someone.

  • I like to read/write monthly recap post. It has a way of letting you know you conquered and that there’s hope to do better. I can relate to the whole NYSC stress and PPA palava!

And…Yaaaaay! I won!!! My first ever giveaway entry,

  • That’s actually something I think about a lot. I like to believe that you meet certain people or go to certain places for a reason but sometimes, I just can’t figure out what said reason is.

Glad you were able to establish what you would like to do next and I wish you all the luck in the world with it Cassie!//I actually haven’t read Homegoing but I want to so badly.

Love all the outfits, especially the one with the blue dress and the ones with the striped pants! 🙂

  • Enjoyed reading this as always. The post truly felt inspired. Plus, why you always such an effortlessly cool kid? 😍👌🙌Happy for you for those major wins. Who what wear! Yassss girl! You deserve them all and more. And I can totally relate to the body weight thing. As I have gained quite some weight myself and 50% of my wardrobe no longer fits. I feel sometimes like I don’t even know who I am anymore. Sigh.

PS: That NYSC uniform looks peng on you.

  • I used to do a monthly recap too but stopped because I didn’t want to share TMI. It’s always nice to read tho. You are had an eventful February! I hope March brings you everything you hope for and more 🙂

  • Cassie I really enjoyed reading this post and talk of home going😲 That book is everything and I have to go buy it for my shelf just because good books should be owned, you make everything so simple. Your blog is inspiring and you give me strength, please come to Accra soon so I will make you one of my special Afang soup.

  • Finally a taking stock post yaayy!!! I’ve missed these. And important lessons too, especially the point on moving on and letting go… I have had such a struggle with that since last year, thankfully I am over it now. NYSC is sha stressful! My luck was that I already had a PPA in mind after redeployment so I was covered. Looove your pics! Please did you take these with a camera or your iPhone? Would really love to know

  • That everything go they alright last last is what I needed to hear. Starting my blog again from the scratch is just hard anyhow.

And the way NYSC has been frustrating mans of late.. Arghhh.. Especially with biometrics.. The pushing and shoving, hope you’ve gotten a place by now

I steal my brothers perfume oil, one of these days I’ll stop being a theif and get mine.
