Taking Stock + A Little Life Update.

There are a million and one excuses I could give for not being as present as I should be here. I could also say that things are about to change for the better, but would I really be speaking to anyone anymore? Gone are the days when people religiously followed blogs, when I could confidently make a promise to be better after a long time away and be rest assured that there are people at the other end taking this promise to heart. People to be consistent for.

This is not to say that I haven’t been here as frequently because of this, but knowing that fewer people are hopping on blogs these days have made me a bit more lax in creating content here.

All the gloom and death of the blogosphere asides, I really do love this space of mine and intend to keep sharing my life and style with you all.

Life lately hasn’t been the most exciting of times. More often than not, I feel like there’s really not much to write about here, but  I’m constantly reminding myself to take note of the seemingly mundane things and document them endlessly. To weave my daily happenings into stories and draw lessons from them. Because sometimes that’s where the inspiration lies. Not in the heavy stuff but in the little moments.

However, I’ve been doing very little of documenting my life – both in words and in pictures. Somewhere along the line of writing as an actual day job for me, I lost the zeal to put pen to paper and became a bit complacent. Pictures on the other hand, (as you might be able to tell from the mirror selfies littered around in this post) have been a bit better.

As I write this, I’m sitting in a plane en-route to Ethiopia after a short stay in Dakar. You might wonder why I would say that my life isn’t exciting, especially knowing how passionate I am about travel and exploring. Whilst this is a once in a blue moon type occurrence; My day to day life in itself is a rinse repeat routine of work and work commute. A dull cycle all the more heightened by the fact that I live in a city like Lagos that is determined to suck the joy out of its people.

But not to sound like I live a dreary life because, in all honesty, these past few months have been quite an interesting journey. I went from freelancing as an influencer and creative entrepreneur, trying to figure out life after my medical housemanship and nysc to working as a content marketer in the financial sector. A feat that I attribute partly to the grace of God, speaking things into existence and of course years of building the Cassie Daves brand.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen snippets of my new life working in content/communications and adjusting to the new routine. It’s been both as equally frustrating as it’s been exciting but I’ll leave that for another blog post.

Currently?

Hoping: That Lagos doesn’t kill me because it seems like the system is designed just for that. The daily traffic and madness I have to deal with on the streets of Lagos are enough to last a lifetime. Also hoping that the next few months take a turn for the better in terms of my relationships and work generally.

Reading: Elizabeth Gilbert’s “Eat Pray, Love” and honestly struggling to keep up but I’m determined to get to the end. Liz made it into my fave list after I read her book – big magic (reviewed here).

Doing: A lot of writing (lowkey not a fan), and trying to maintain my sanity in the midst of it all. Like I said earlier, writing for and as work isn’t exactly the most fun thing out there.

Feeling: A bit more stable emotionally. I’ve had a bit of an emotional rollercoaster year and I’m just glad for this period of rest, where I feel peaceful and content regardless of everything that has happened to me.

Loving: A lot of things lately and open to trying them as well! From euphoria makeup to bucket hats and even cycling shorts! Definitely doing a full post on things I’m currently loving soon.

Working: On fashion week content at work and that has been pretty interesting. I remember randomly mentioning sometime last year that I’d like to be a part of a team that puts a fashion week together and I’m still amazed that it actually happened!

On the brand end, I should be working on the 2020 blog planners and notepads but I’m thinking of taking a little break here. If you’ll like to collaborate with me to make next year’s edition happen, please send me an email!

P.S – The 2019 planners are semi-undated and can still be used into the new year so if you’d like to purchase it, they are currently on sales HERE

Excited: About possibly traveling in December. Aside from that, I guess I’m just pretty excited and open to whatever comes next.

I feel like I haven’t done enough justice to those question prompts up there but there’s just so many emotions that I can’t properly put into words yet, so I hope that those suffice for now. I hope that you’re having a good month so far? I’ll love to read your thoughts, experiences/ lessons these past months and how life lately has been for you.

  • Hi Cassie! Welcome back! I was really excited to see a taking stock post and clicked on it immediately I saw the tweet. Thanks for writing in spite of the lack of inspiration. It’s true there’s a dwindling blog-reading, but there are still a select few (like me!) who love reading blogs. I personally pre2blog posts to social media because I believe it shows a fuller picture. Just like you, I also believe the little things matter significantly. Just like always, I loved the honesty of this post. I was a bit surprised when I read you describe your life as boring, but I get that life might not always seem like it is on social media. Really looking forward to reading about the transition from medical life to your current job.
    Cheers!

  • Thank you for sharing, just started blogging after a year off it. Your blog post is one of those I have been reading to stay motivated. Especially the ones from when you first started. Dont stop 😘

  • I’ve missed you cassie. I follow you on IG so I totally understand the break from the blogosphere lol, so good to have you back. Please do stop by my blog: bricksandlaces.wordpress.com

  • I really loved reading this!!! And i can relate to not posting on blogs, cause people barely check them these days in the light of social media. But your writing is so fluid, and interesting to read. I hope you get to travel again in December 🤞🏾. Plus, The city (Lagos) is truly tiring with traffic, annoying people you might have to encounter daily, and all of that. But I wish you the absolute best in conquering each day & slaying this thing called “life”. ❤️

  • Hiii Cassie, I get what you mean by people ditching the blogosphere. Speaking from the POV of an ardent blog reader, some of the Nigerian blogs that I follow have either taken an unending break or leave the most bizarre posts, these days. I get that most would rather follow trends and water the ones that serve them the most, but if you’re not writing blog posts anymore, then just don’t. Don’t bring the chaff from your IG sponsored post to your blog, don’t leave posts with so many grammatical mistakes that could have been spotted if you read it before publishing, don’t get me excited when I see that you’ve published, only to be hit in the face with “a link to your YouTube channel for the full post”….whew. Okay, Bolu, take a deep breath.

It’s upsetting because I remember those days when I could spend hours scrolling through blog posts from different bloggers, in different spheres.

Ugh, Cassie, I would be really sad if you stopped blogging because you are easily my fave Nigerian style blogger/influencer for several reasons. I was going to say something else, but can’t remember rn.

If you get a pair of biker shorts, please let us know. I want to buy one too, but fear dey catch me-let someone not come and sell short leggings to me.

    XOXO (Ugh, that’s weird)

  • Woow… From medical sector to financial sector as a content marketer. Hope your parents weren’t disappointed o..
I would like to read on how you managed this transition

  • Hi Cassie!
I have missed these sort of posts from you. Honestly, it makes me sad to see my favourite bloggers talk about how blogs are dying when I just got my own website and still read blogs avidly.
I do understand that video content is making more moves now but I still love living vicariously through people in words which is what blogs do for me.
I’d love to see posts on your work update especially the transition
Please come on here more often.

  • I know you’ve heard it said a good number of times but your style is LOOVELLLY! You look comfortable and relaxed. Your clothes really reflect you. I really wish I was half as stylish as you. And gosh you write well!!
I think anyone that follows your Instagram won’t miss you so much, but if you could just make your way back here a couple of times, it’d be nice. But anyhow you like it, keep enjoying yourself.
