An Evening Of Self Love.
Yesterday, I was thinking of how time flies. You’re planning a project and freaking out about the big day but it comes and just like that, it’s over and filed away in your archives like you didn’t spend days quieting your anxieties over it. It’s amazing, isn’t it?
This time last weekend, myself and Laila Cadne hosted a few lovely ladies at the orchid bistro restaurant for our Galentine’s’ day out. This is probably not news. Although, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been a bit quiet about the event. But of course, you didn’t expect me not to have a recap post here, did you?
Related: Check out my recap of my first meet up event with Tuke Morgan and Berry Dakara.
The day started like every other day. Except that In a couple of hours, I would be having one of my best days of the year so far.
I put finishing touches to the tassel earrings and thank you card designs and sorted out the gift bags for the guests before heading to orchid bistro restaurant (the venue) with my co-host Laila for a quick set up.
Unfortunately, we had so much fun that we somehow only managed to remember that we hadn’t taken a picture together (and a group picture too!) when it was dark. With my friend Becky’s help, I was able to appear in at least one of the pictures. haha. It could have been worse, so I’m counting my blessings.
The ladies trickled in slowly and in between the laughs, selfies and full on photoshoot sessions (side eye), we finally got around to introducing ourselves and kicking off the event.
Of course, the biggest part and driving force for the meet up was to celebrate self-love and care. So while we dined, we each talked about our journey to self-love. Some more than the others. But all equally enlightening. It was a delight to see how everyone bonded so easily and shared without reservations.
One of my favorite part of the day asides from meeting everyone was listening to Kamnelechukwu talk. I’m in awe of this girl, so I was thrilled when she agreed to show up and share some of her life giving poetry with us.
After all, was said and done, we played some games and spent the rest of the time bonding and generally getting to know each other better. So much so, that we extended the time that was set to call it a wrap and had to remind ourselves that it was time to go.
Gift bags were graciously provided courtesy of some super amazing brands. I wanted the contents of the gift bag to match the theme of the event so I carefully selected items to go in line with this. We got
- Konjac sponges from Cici glam –an online beauty brand
- Affirmation wallet cards from heartsandframes for that extra dose of inspiration every morning and on slow days,
- Lipsticks from Revlon courtsey Laila Cadne who is the Revlon Makeup artist rep in Nigeria
- Skincare goodies (black soap, toner and face serum) from organic skincare brand- cocoshe organics because taking care of your skin is a vital part of self-care and love.
- A braids wig from hair brand – VivianLucyHair which served as a giveaway prize for the winner of the games that was played.
- Tassel earrings handmade by me with love.
In typical Cassie Daves manner, I had grand plans for the event and had everything thoughtfully put together right down to the thank you notes but everything didn’t work out exactly as I had penned it down.
Although, if I were to judge from the smiles on our guests’ faces, the invaluable lessons I took home with me, the comments asking when the next one will hold and how full my heart felt at the end of the day, I daresay that it was a success and turned out just fine.
I’ll like to say thank you so much to everyone that showed up, helped, share +RT’d, sponsored and supported us again for the event. We couldn’t have done it without you all, thank you!
As an aside, the Orchid bistro restaurant is truly a beautiful space and definitely a spot worth checking out. Slow service though but the cozy space makes up for it.

Honestly, it’s like our brains weren’t booting when it came to taking pictures. It wasn’t till much later that we realized we didn’t get enough pictures.
Hmm. This Issa concept but will you all come?! Lol
I know that feeling, of working really hard to plan an event and worry most of the time about everything looking the way you pictured it in your head. And then it all comes and goes, with none of the things you worried about happening and more often than not, including the picture in your head because no one seems to follow the script you have in your head ……lol!
Anyways, it always ends up a beautiful memory in this collection called life.

Hi, I’m @Dami_myne on twitter and my email address is fadeore@gmail.com
I’m sitting here wishing I made it to the event but oh well, I’m compensated by the fact that another will certainly come up(pleaseee you just have to, I know better now, well the money in my pocket knows better now)
A little suggestion tho. For we that are stingy with spoiling “self”, it won’t be a bad idea to give us heads up a month before. I know there’s a lot of us that need some good self loving and if we won’t do it alone, we might as well learn to do it with others.
Basically, all I’m trying to say is we could get so drowned in life that we forget to invest in ourselves and actually let our hair down.
This seems like a good opportunity to do that and I’m glad I know better now.

Hi Cassie
I’ve been planning to start a blog for a while now, but procastination’s got the better of me under the guise of getting the perfect camera, school work and so on. But after finding your blog a few days ago, i must say i got all the inspiration i needed. Reading your first post and seeing your growth over the years was just so inspiring! Plus the fact that you studied medicine (which is wayy more stressful than my course lol)
Thank you so much!
