Outfit || Styling Your Shirt Dress.

Two things I’ve been wanting to add to my wardrobe? Shift dresses and shirt dresses.

Shirt dresses because its touch and go and perfect for lazy days as well but then there’s this slight pressure on how to wear it as a ‘fashion head’ (or maybe its just me) because its easy to fall into the ordinary way of wearing it buttoned up, or unbuttoned at the top with heels/flats and looking like every regular Jane.

I don’t roll that way, I like to always add a twist. That’s where the pressure bit comes in, but I have to remind myself that not every time ‘with a twist’, sometimes basic but nice.
Its a kind of funny ironic thing though, that I’m all for two trends that I honestly don’t think work so well for my body type – me being flat ass’ed and chested, I might just end up looking like a ruler but its true what they say you know? Sometimes you can’t help who/what you fall in love with.
One cool way (and my best way) to wear a shirt dress is unbuttoned, watching it swish and swoosh with the wind and feeling like cat woman but in a cape. Of course I’ll complete it with a catwalk but I digress.

I got this beautiful razor blade print shirt dress from Bellacosa, (a boutique I wish i knew about back when i was looking for where to buy a dress for my graduation because they have really chic dresses *sigh* Ended up improvising and you can check out what I wore instead here )
I decided to go with a monochrome look pairing the shirtdress with a black camisole, black pencil skirt and white sneakers.
I think pairing it with big sunglasses and a choker like i initially planned would also have added a little extra sum’n sum’n to the look. What do you think?

Hack : You can just wear a dress      instead or shorts the length of/slightly    shorter than the shirt dress too.

I wore this to the art exhibition I went to during the weekend at cafe neo
I have a dressier way to style this shirt dress and it was my plan to switch it up to that after the bialere exhibition and head to the genevieve summer party but if you read this post, then you’ll know that I never made it there and why.

Tip : Shirt dresses are mostly simple but pretty versatile and its usually how you choose to accessorize it (especially your footwear) that can take it from basic to yass!  : Heels, Sneakers, gladiator sandals, mules, boots…

Going out this weekend?

Why not try on a shirt dress and give it a more interesting spin this time!

So how do you style your shirt dress?
– Buttoned to the top with flats/heels?
– Slightly unbuttoned with statement neckpieces?
– Belted at the waist?
– Paired with denim pants?
– With a blazer or jacket thrown lazily over your shoulder?

Let me know! Please share.
